Abstract

1441764 Cricket sight screen S W ELBORN 23 Oct 1974 [17 Aug 1973] 38893/73 Heading A6D A lightweight cricket sight screen that is not easily blown over by winds comprises a frame 2, e.g. of light alloy, to which is attached by horizontal pivots 10 a sighting area 3 consisting of a gauze or net 14, e.g. of synthetic plastics releasably held within a light alloy sub-frame 9, the sighting area being biased to return to a vertical position by either off-setting the pivots 10 towards the top of the sighting area or else weighting the bottom, so that under the action of a wind the sighting area is merely tilted. The frame 2 comprises braced uprights 5 and 6 and is attached to a wheeled base 1 of steel tubing. The frame 2 may be of wood or rigid extruded plastics. Nylon on polyvinyl chloride is preferable for the mesh of the sighting area, e.g. in the case of the net 14, white close mesh nylon. The net 14 has strips 15 and 16, 15 being bolted to clips 17 that pass around the frame 9 and 16 having projections 18 with holes for engagement by threaded hooks 19, whose wing-nuts enable the tension in the net 14 to be adjusted. Locking pins 11 pass through holes 12 and 13 in the frame 2 and sub-frame 9 to keep the sighting-area fixed during use. Wedges 20 or staking posts through the base 1 are used to position the apparatus.
