Balls. - To enhance gyrostatic and inertia effects due to spin with steadiness of flight, a tensionally-wound golf ball is provided with a layer of weighty material as near to the surface of the finished ball as possible. The material must be non-rigid and elastic, and may consist of rubber or a gelatinous compound loaded with litharge, a chemical compound, or powdered heavy metal. In weight the material is from 20 to 60 percent of the weight of the whole ball. When formed from a sheet of material, the material may be conveniently applied in two pieces of the known dumbbell like form.
