Abstract
1441033 Drying webs A C M ASFURA 2 July 1973 [14 Aug 1972] 31431/73 Heading F4G A process for employing steam in a heat transfer apparatus, e.g. a paper drier, comprises feeding steam into a heat transfer unit such as a rotary drying cylinder 1, and separating the exhaust from the unit into a steam component and a condensed component and piping these components through separate conduits the steam component being fed to a further heat transfer unit. As shown the drier comprises three sets of drying cylinders the second set 18 being heated by steam exhausted from the first set 1 and the third set 29, 31, 33 being heated in series by steam from a flash tank 11 the steam being produced in the flash tank from condensate from the first two mentioned sets of cylinders. The third set comprises the input end of the drier and the series heating gives a rising temperature gradient as paper passes into the drier.
