Abstract

1440403 Inhibition of scaling in saline water evaporator W R GRACE & CO 7 Jan 1974 [8 Jan 1973] 00575/74 Heading C7E Deposition of scale in saline water evaporators is inhibited by adding to the water (i) polymethacrylic acid or a salt thereof and (ii) polyacrylic acid, an acrylic acid-acrylamide copolymer, a salt of either, or polyacrylamide, additive (iii) having M.W. = 1 x 10<SP>4</SP> to 1 x 10<SP>8</SP>. The polymethacrylic acid may have M.W. 2,000-12,000; a third additive may be polyacrylic acid of M.W. 3,000-20,000. The total amount of additive may be 0À1-10-p.p.m.; scaling of Ni or Cu-Ni alloy is referred to.
