Abstract

1438958 Welding by fusion BOC INTERNATIONAL Ltd 17 Sept 1973 [15 Sept 1972] 42834/72 Heading B3R [Also in Division H1] An electron beam welding machine includes a fixed valve plate 10 supporting an electron gun 4, a rotary and indexible turret plate 12 adapted to support a plurality of workpieces 16 and means for interposing a dummy load 22 in the beam path 8 during all the time when the plates are in relative motion. The dummy load can be a copper block moved by a motor controlled by a further motor moving the plates. Aperture 18 in plate 10 is larger than aperture 20 in plate 12 to prevent debris being deposited on the sliding surfaces of the plates.
