Abstract

1438714 Feeding sheets ENGINEERING COMPONENTS Ltd 21 Aug 1974 [21 Aug 1973] 39399/73 Heading B8R A pile support 4 is raised along rails 9 by air admitted to the lower part of cylinder 11, until the top sheet of the pile 5 abuts a valve 19, whereupon air is admitted to the upper part of the cylinder 11 to balance the upward pressure, the valve 19 having a bleed facility so that a slight upward pressure is obtained. When a sheet is separated, the valve 19 allows further upward movement. Sheets are separated from the top of the pile by a reciprocating friction pad 15 operated by a pneumatic cylinder 16 pivoted at 17, a pneumatic cylinder 18 acting to raise the pad 15 clear of the pile during its return stroke. A sheet separated from the pile is advanced over a feed table 23 and by rollers 6 to a press 7. Double feed is prevented by a rod 24 defining a gap with the table 23 and mounted on eccentric bearings so as to be adjustable. A sheet in the press actuates a detector to prevent feed of the next sheet, and removal of the sheet from the press initiates the feed of the next sheet.
