Abstract

1437455 Spring compression tools GIRLING Ltd 18 April 1974 [30 April 1973] 20533/73 Heading B4W A spring compression tool (Fig. 1) for use in compressing the spring assembly of a brake (Fig. 2) comprises an elongate member 1 with a nut 2 threaded on the member 1, an abutment plate 3 mounted for rotation relative to both the nut and member 1 and means, e.g. threaded end portion 1a for connecting the member 1, after removal of a bolt 16, to a part 15 of the spring assembly. In use the plate 3 abuts against the housing 10 of the brake and rotation of the nut effects compression of the spring to allow, e.g. removal of the hydraulic operating mechanism 18 for servicing. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) the abutment plate is not mounted on the nut and has two bolt holes for reception of bolts to hold the spring assembly in the compressed condition so that the elongate member 1 and operating nut 2 can be removed, e.g. for use with another abutment plate.
