Abstract

The alkaline-earth and other sulphonates prepared as described in Specification 143,681 are treated to yield alkali-metal sulphonates by dissolving in water and precipitating the base by addition of an alkali salt, such as sodium carbonate. Sodium sulphonate forms a detergent suitable for use with hard water. It is very soluble in water and is not readily salted out of solution. In preparing calcium sulphonate, as described in the above-mentioned Specification, this salt may be precipitated from its solutions by addition of a mixture of sodium and calcium chlorides.ALSO:The alkaline-earth and other sulphonates prepared as described in Specification 143,681 are treated to yield alkali-metal sulphonates, by dissolving in water and precipitating the base by addition of an alkali salt such as sodium carbonate.
