Abstract
1436514 Ships' sterns H V PAZOS 3 Sept 1974 38371/74 Headings B7A and B7S A ship has a stern 22 which is pivotable about a horizontal bearing 30 so as to raise the screw 86 out of the water for inspection. The stern unit is mounted on arms 20 which carry the rudder post and lead into the shaft struts 24. The lower end 28 of the stern unit bears a connection joint 36 including hydraulically operated pins (Fig. 4, not shown) for connecting the unit to the hull. The propeller shaft 19 has a flanged connection 80 in the plane of the bearing 30 and the connection joint 36. The bearing 30 is a loose fit to enable adjustments to be made on all three axes by screw adjusters 50, 58 (and 54, Fig. 3, not shown).
