Abstract

1435686 Security paper CULTER GUARD BRIDGE HOLDINGS Ltd 25 June 1973 [26 April 1972] 49571/71 Heading B6A [Also in Division B2] Security paper which is tamperproof to alteration involving abrasion of its surface comprises a paper base layer and an abradable top coating of a non-metallic pigment dispersed in a binder, the top coating being not readily transferred to other surfaces by the action of pressure alone and the top coating and base layer having contrasting appearance when suitably illuminated so that alteration involving abrasion of the top coating can be visually detected. The paper may be coated on both sides, be carbonized on one side, be covered with transparent or windowed protective sheets, held in a protective envelope or be incorporated into a pad including conventional paper sheets and carbons. The pigment may be china clay or titanium dioxide and the binder starch, casein, acrylic, styrene/acrylic or styrene/ butadiene. The base layer, may be a dyed portion of the paper and may include a fluorescent material which is visible through an abraded coating when viewed in ultra-violet light. The top coating may include material which loses or changes its colour on contact with an ink solvent, and a fluorescent material which contrasts with fluorescent material in the base layer when viewed in ultra-violet light.
