Abstract

1435629 Web splicing &C MASCHINENFABRIK WIFAG 11 March 1974 [9 March 1973] 10761/74 Heading B8R An apparatus for limiting the length of severed trailing ends of expiring webs includes a scanning head 10, Fig. 1, which produces an output signal each time an adhesive signal generating foil 6 or the web roll 3 to be used next passes under the head 10, a clock generator 16, a circumferential speed counter 12, a splicing brush counter 14, Fig. 2, a splicing knife counter 15 and a logic control system which is effective to enable the counter 12 to count the clock pulses from the generator 16 between consecutive output signals from the head and to enable the counters 12, 14 to count the clock pulses from the appearance of one but the first of the output signals produced by the head 10. The counters 14, 15 are preset to a state corresponding to a mechanical delay time of a splicing brush and knife, respectively, and, arranged to produce respective splicing brush and knife enabling and trigger signals when their state coincides with that of the counter 12. The apparatus is further provided with a delay circuit actuated by trigger signals arranged to produce a knife enabling signal delayed by a time which is adjustable and proportional to the speed of the expiring web 7.
