Abstract

1435092 Withering tea B N SHEADER 25 April 1973 [25 Jan 1972] 3523/72 Heading A2B [Also in Division F4] Tea is withered using apparatus consisting of one or more perforated conveyors 1, 2, having at least one fan 6 below them and at least one fan 7 above for respectively blowing air upwardly and downwardly through green tea on the conveyor(s). Each conveyor may comprise wire mesh which may be endless or of just sufficient length to cover the upper reach of the conveyor. The fans may be reversible A partition 5 may be provided so that air can pass in one direction through part of the conveyor, and in the opposite direction through another part. The partition may support a fan, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown). The green tea may be fed to the conveyor through a hopper. Side walls, end walls and a roof may be provided to house the conveyor. A screw conveyor 3 may be provided to remove withered tea. The walls may be made from two facing, corrugated sheets which form drainage channels. Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown).
