Abstract

1435051 Wrapping tape on to elongate cores TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSON 18 Jan 1974 [19 Jan 1973] 02598/74 Heading B8C In wrapping tape helically on to elongate material, the tape is rotated about the material, adhesive is applied to the tape as it rotates, and adjacent turns of tape on the material overlap and are bonded together. The adhesive is applied to the side of the tape that faces inwards, and only to the overlap area. As shown, Fig. 2, an elongate material 17, e.g. an electrical conductor, pipe or cable, is passed through rotating tape reel 18 and a rotating adhesive applicator 1, 2 having a biconical chamber 15 from which adhesive is flung by centrifugal force through hole 6 on to the rotating tape. The applicator has an external slot guiding the tape over hole 6. Adhesive is fed from tube 12 via holes in static disc 17 into chamber 15, from which excess adhesive is drained via tube 14. The wound tape is compacted by die 20. Detector 24 detects excess adhesive.
