Abstract

1434624 Gas burners SOC NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE 3 Aug 1973 [4 Aug 1972] 36973/73 Heading F4T Combustion apparatus comprises a burner 19 having at least one combustion chamber 20 communicating with a feed chamber 18 through at least one aperture or slit 22, the chamber 18 being supplied with air through a pipe 10 open to atmosphere having a mixing zone 14 including a divergent passage 16 to which combustible gas is supplied through injector 17, means being provided for adjusting the flow of gas and air to the feed chamber and there being at least one discharge passage 23 from the or each combustion chamber. The mixing zone 14 may also include a convergent passage 15. The invention is described with respect to the burning-off of hydrocarbon gases formed at an oil-well located at sea. The gases are fed to injector 17 from a high-pressure separator 2 through valve 27 and air for ignition is supplied by blower 12. Additional gas may be supplied from a low pressure separator 5 through valve 28 and an injector 13 positioned in pipe 10. In Fig. 4 the burner comprises a cylinder 41 divided into a combustion chamber 46 and feed chamber 45 by a refractory member 48 provided with apertures 43 each of which has an associated ignition device 40. The burner may be a multiple burner (Fig. 3, not shown) in which the feed chamber is connected by elbow tubes to a plurality of combustion chambers extending parallel to the feed chamber 1 and each having an inlet aperture formed in a refractory material. In a further modification (Fig 5. not shown) the wall of the feed chamber is defined by slabs of refractory material adjacent edges of which define the apertures or slits. The feed chamber (Fig. 6 and 7) may also comprise a tube extending from the supply pipe and having perforations, a screen being provided to prevent flash back at the perforations, and the feed chamber may be subdivided by apertured metal partitions or pipes through which a coolant flows may be located adjacent the tube walls. In a further modification (Fig. 8) the feed chamber is defined by pipes for coolant extending through the combustion chamber and defining a cylinder, the gaps between the pipes providing the apertures or slits. The combustion chamber may be fitted with radiating bars.
