Abstract
1317186 Gas turbine combustion chambers DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 8 July 1970 [11 July 1969] 34941/69 Heading F1L [Also in Division F4] A fuel supply nozzle 3 for a gas turbine engine comprises an element 7 formed from a sheet of porous material, e.g. a metallic foam such as a chromium alloy foam, and a wall member 6 spaced from element 7 by dimples and defining a gallery 8 to which liquid or gaseous fuel is fed through pipes 10, 11. The wall 6 has tubular projections passing through apertures in the element 7 and in a pierced metallic backing member 7a to provide air flow passages, supplied from inlet end 2 the air mixing with fuel passing through the porous element 7 for supply to combustion chamber 1. The use of several feed pipes 10, 11 enables selected zones of the nozzle to be operated independently. Reduction in turbine power may be achieved by shutting off fuel supply to various zones of the nozzle e. g. commencing with zones furthest from the exit for hot gases each zone having an independently controllable fuel supply.
