Abstract

1434509 Controlling light HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO 12 June 1974 [28 June 1973] 26148/74 Heading H4F [Also in Division G5] The backplate of a liquid crystal display panel is made by forming an array of reflective electrodes 19 on a substrate 13, depositing a coating over the electrodes and removing portions of the coating which overlie the central region of each electrode to leave a lattice 33 and provide a spacer which can support a face plate over the entire area. The coating comprises a layer 25 of P doped SiO 2 and a layer of A1. Areas of A1 are removed by a photoresist method; the elements 33 so formed are anodized 35 and exposed portions of the SiO 2 layer are etched away. The coating may be of polycrystalline Si. The base is of SiO 2 and is square or circular. Between electrodes 19 conductors 24 extend forming crossed arays (22) Fig. 5 (not shown). Each electrode is connected between a pair of conductors by an AND gate (26). Circuit elements may be formed in the base 13. Specification 1,406,413 is referred to.
