Abstract

1434268 Embossing surfaces; etching TANAZAWA HAKKOUSHA CO Ltd 18 Dec 1973 [10 Aug 1973] 58661/73 Headings B6C and B6J A pair of embossing surfaces are provided by etching with co-operating positive and negative patterns while allowing sufficient side-etching to provide a clearance therebetween for the thickness of the material to be embossed. A preferred embodiment involves providing a light-sensitive coating on each of the cooperating surfaces of two rolls or other dies; exposing the light-sensitive coatings through respective masks whose opaque areas are the inverse of each other; developing the coatings to provide resists; and etching while allowing sufficient side-etching to provide the required clearances. The rolls are generally of steel; the etchants may be FeCl 3 , NHO 3 or HCl. In an alternative embodiment, identical masks may be used for both rolls, the light-sensitive coating on one roll being insoluble but turning soluble on exposure, the coating on the other role changing from soluble to insoluble on exposure. The material being embossed is generally thick steel sheet.
