The garden is contained in a fibreglass tray 2, having side walls 3, and a floor 4 separating upper compartment 5 from lower compartment 6. The reservoir is a tank 9 mounted on lugs 9a in compartment 6. Compartment 5 contains soil mixture 14, miniature plants and shrubs 15 and the pool container 7. A drain tube 8 extends from container 7 through an aperture in floor 4 to the tank 9. A feed tube 10 extends via an electrically driven pump 11 through an aperture in floor 4 and through the base of the pool container 7 to a fountain nozzle. Tube 12, extending through an aperture in floor 4 and terminating above the water level in container 7, prevents the formation of air locks in tube 10 and serves as a filling tube for tank 9. Electrical connections to the pump 11 and to miniature lamp standards 16 are made via a lead 13 connected to a low voltage transformer (not shown) and a distribution plate 17 which houses control switches and jack sockets. In alternative embodiments a bowl is subdivided into two compartments by a horizontal floor supported on a pillar, or pillars. The upper compartment contains the miniature garden, the lower compartment constitutes the water reservoir, and the pump is housed in a tube projecting through the said floor.
