Abstract

1430968 Heated glazing panel GLAVERBEL-MECANIVER 2 July 1973 [21 July 1972] 31326/73 Heading C1M [Also in Division H5] A transparent glazing panel comprises a glass substrate 1 carrying at least one adherent electrically conductive coating strip 4 in which heat can be generated by Joule effect, and which contains metal particles together with two lead borosilicate glasses of different softening points, at least the lower softening point glass serving as a binder for the metal particles. The metal (e.g. Ag) preferably constitutes at least 40% by weight of the strip. In preparing the panel a coating composition comprising a paste or suspension (e.g. in nitrocellulose or an oil) of the metal and two glasses is applied in a desired pattern, e.g. by screen printing, and is fired at a temperature below the softening point of the glass substrate but sufficient to fuse at least the lower softening point glass. Preferably all or substantially all of the particles of metal and of both glasses are of size less than 5 microns. The glass of higher softening point may remain in particulate, unfused form. Preferably this harder glass constitutes not more than 40 wt. per cent of the total glasses. The glazing panel may comprise electrodes 2, 3 of the same composition as conductive strips 4. Layers 5 may be applied, over electrodes 2, 3, which comprise at least 60% by weight of silver, so as to facilitate attachment of wires thereto.
