Abstract
1430921 Presses W BRAUER 31 Jan 1974 [31 Jan 1973] 04636/74 Heading B3H A hot or cold working press has its ram 12 driven by a pair of wedges 7, 8 moved in opposition in a horizontal plane. The wedges are driven by a spindle provided with left- and right-handed threads 2, 3 engaged with respective nuts 5, 6 in the wedges. The spindle has a flywheel 4 at one end which can be braked and is driven by an electric motor 1. The motor 1 includes a flywheel 14, Fig. 3, which can be selectively coupled to the spindle. The coupling may be a friction or an hydraulic coupling of the hydrostatic or hydrodynamic type. The wedges may alternately be driven by a doubleacting hydraulic cylinder between them. The wedges 7, 8 interfit each other, Fig. 2 (not shown). The press may be a forging press or a shear. A hydro-pneumatic restoring cylinder 21 returns the ram 12 and the wedges 7, 8 to their starting position. Two presses may be used in line with a common spindle.
