Abstract

1429658 Lowering apparatus O BRDA 27 June 1973 [29 June 1972] 30564/73 Addition to 1351987 Heading B8D The device of the parent Specification 1,351,987 is modified in that the control end 6<SP>11</SP> of the rope 6 is guided to and from the drum 3 by an elongated guide bail having longitudinal legs 8 and 9 carried around the drum and interconnected by bights 10 and 11, the rope running freely through the bail when the control end 6<SP>11</SP> and the load end 6<SP>1</SP> of the rope extend substantially in parallel or at right angles but being braked by rope engagement with the bail bight 10 when the rope ends extend substantially in opposite directions. The bail is secured to the drum mounting bracket 1 by bolts 13 and 14, the bracket having a hole 15 aligned with the drum axis, for supporting the bracket when a load is to be wound relative to the bracket, and a hole 16 aligned with the load end 6<SP>1</SP>, of the rope departing from the drum, for directly supporting a load when the bracket moves therewith as the load end 6<SP>1</SP> of the rope is held stationary. A guide block 17 secured to the bracket 1 defines a contoured chamber with the drum periphery, in which the cable is restricted for guiding the block having two side walls extending in between the drum end flanges to terminate adjacent the drum periphery.
