1426224 Superconductors COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 31 May 1973 [21 June 1972] 25967/73 Heading H1A A superconducting conductor 1 comprises a plurality of wire or ribbon superconductive elements 2 embedded in regular spaced-apart relation in a non-superconductive matrix 3, and a composite tubular sheath consisting of an inner layer 4 of material of low thermal diffusivity, and an outer layer 5 of material of high thermal diffusivity, layers 4, 5 being concentric. Layer 4 may be of cupro-nickel, and layer 5 of copper or aluminium, the composite sheath preventing heat generated by frictional contact between conductors from reaching the elements 2. The matrix 3 is made of material the resistivity of which is selected to suit the intended use of the superconducting conductor.
