Abstract
1,107,216. Superconductor devices. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. 6 April, 1965 [9 April, 1964], No. 14649/65. Heading H1K. A multi-layer, multi-turn winding of superconductive material has a layer of normally conductive material placed between and insulated from at least some of the adjacent pairs of layers. Fig. 2 shows a section of a coil comprising superconductor elements 4 surrounded by insulation 5 and with the layers separated by sheets of conductive material 6 such as copper, aluminium or silver, lying between insulating layers 7. Alternatively the layers may be in pancake form separated by flat conductive sheets. The conductive layers may be short circuited or connected in series and terminated by a resistance to absorb energy when the superconductive coil goes normal.
