Abstract

1426198 Collagen AVICON Inc 28 Nov 1973 [4 Dec 1972] 55282/73 Heading C3H [Also in Division D2] Water-insoluble, ionizable, partial acid salts of collagen containing from 50-90% of the theoretical stoichiometric amount of ionizable acid, in the form of fibres, are prepared by treating collagen fibres with an inorganic or organic acid. Specified acids are hydrochloric acid, hydrobromic acid, sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, cyanoacetic acid, acetic acid, citric acid, and lactic acid. The collagen fibres may be derived from hide, gut, tendon, or cartilage, a preferred material being corium derived from cowhide. The partial acid salts may be formed by incorporating the required amount of acid in an aqueous dispersion or slurry of the fibres.
