Abstract

1425005 Refuse compactors GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 25 June 1974 [26 April 1974] 28136/74 Heading B8C [Also in Division F2] A refuse compactor has a compaction plate 102 driven by a screw 64, and a brake 101 rotatably mounted in abutting engagement with driving means 102 for the screw and with top 30 of the compactor frame and adapted to rotate through an arc, at the end of the return stroke of the screw, in response to a tightening force between the driving means and top 30, the brake engaging stop means to stop the driving means. The brake 101 is supported on the top 30 by a needle bearing 100 and has a radial projection or projections to engage a stop post or posts 105. The driving means 102 is journalled to a collar 84 which through a bearing 78 rotates a sleeve 76 whichis threaded to the screw to drive it linearly.
