Abstract
1422953 Flail mower TURNER ENG CO (COUGHTON) Ltd 3 Jan 1974 [6 Oct 1972] 46183/72 Heading A1F A mower comprises a plurality of shafts 28, 30, each provided with a plurality of flail cutters. The axes of adjacent shafts are inclined, to form an included angle of about 175‹ so as to avoid the formation of uncut swathes between shafts. When there are more than two shafts they are preferably inclined in alternate directions so forming a shallow zigzag when seen in plan view. The shafts are mounted to allow for movement, relative to each other, in a plane generally normal to the ground, when in use in order to afford conformation to ground contours to at least a limited degree. These deflections of the shafts are allowed by rubber bushes, springs or the like. The shafts are driven by a belt and pulley 26 connected via driven shafts 22, 24 to a motor 20. The mower may be movably attached to a tractor (10) Fig. 1 (not shown) by arms (12, 14) and a series of hydraulic or like rams. Ground engaging wheels or skids 40, 42 may also be provided.
