Abstract
1422946 Measuring tension in mooring ropes TRADE & INDUSTRY SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 10 May 1973 [28 April 1972] 19838/72 Heading G1N The tension in each of the ropes 18, Fig. 2, mooring a ship to a jetty is measured by a strain gauge unit 21 bonded to the hook plate 15, which is attached to a base member 14 on the jetty. The strain gauge unit, which includes dummy gauges for automatic temperature compensation, are connected in a bridge network whose unbalance is shown on the ship or at a shore station, and can be used to energize an alarm at a predetermined value.
