Abstract
1421921 Electroslag melting processes BRITISH STEEL CORP 23 Oct 1973 [8 Nov 1972] 51586/72 Heading B3F [Also in Divisions H3-H5] To ensure even melt rates for all three consumable electrodes of a three-phase electroslag apparatus, the electrodes are suspended from a common vertically movable carriage 4 so as to lie on a straight line within the mould 1 and the maximum cross-sectional dimension of the centre electrode 3b in a direction perpendicular to the line specified is made greater than the maximum cross-sectional dimensions of the two flanking electrodes 3a and 3c in the same direction. As shown each electrode is of the same rectangular cross-section but the centre electrode 3b is rotated through 90 degrees relative to the flanking electrodes. Alternatively the centre electrode may be of greater diameter than the flanking electrodes.
