Abstract
142,176. Ablett, F. R. Jan. 27, 1919. Screw conveyers.-Apparatus k employed for the simultaneous grinding and chemical treating of material with acids or other liquids, delivers the pulp to an apparatus A for de-liquefying or squeezing the pulp, and the squeezed pulp is delivered to a vacuum drying-apparatus B. The apparatus A consists of a sinuous tube e provided with a hopper i<111> for receiving the pulp, and with screw conveyers a, which are formed of gradually decreasing pitch in order to squeeze liquid out of the pulp. The vacuum-drying apparatus B consists of a sinuous tube e which contains screw conveyers a, the apparatus being provided with a heating-jacket t and being connected by tubes v to an exhausting-pump. The apparatus B may contain balls or pebbles, which return from the outlet o to the bend i<1> through a race x consisting of an enclosed screen. The treated material is withdrawn from the race by means of a fan.
