Abstract

1421350 Heat pipes FERRANTI Ltd 26 Nov 1973 [30 Dec 1972] 60245/72 Heading F4U A heat pipe, either with or without a capillary wick, includes a bellows 14 on one or both ends of the pipe such that, in operation, the generation of heat by a heat source causes the bellows to expand longitudinally, due to the increase in vapour pressure within the bellows, to force the free end of the bellows into thermal contact with a heat sink 13. A plug 30, formed of thermal conducting material, may be inserted into the bellows 14, extending into the tube 11 of the heat pipe. Vapour is able to pass between guides 31 into the bellows. In other embodiments, a spring may be used to aid or deter the expansion of the bellows. The heat pipe is preferably used with printed board circuitry.
