Abstract
1420923 Capacitors R F OXLEY 26 Jan 1973 [28 Oct 1971] 50047/71 Heading H1M In a capacitor comprising at least one pair of substantially planar electrodes separated by solid dielectric material, at least one electrode in each pair is of bimetal material, the or each bimetal electrode, at a particular temperature, being flat and in face to face contact with a flat surface of the dielectric. As shown, a trimmer capacitor comprises a ceramic stator 10 having stator electrode 12 embedded therein and bimetal rotor 16 connected to spindle 18. The metals and arrangement of the bimetal electrode are such as to give a desired change of capacitance with change of temperature, this being brought about by bending or bowing of the rotor. Account is also taken of the effect of change in temperature on the dielectric. As shown the capacitor is mounted on a printed circuit board, solder 30 providing electrical connection to stator electrode 12 via aperture 32. Alternatively the capacitor may be a fixed capacitor, one or both of the outer electrodes being of bimetal material.
