Abstract
1420776 Containers COMMERCIAL SOLVENTS CORP 13 March 1973 [13 April 1972] 11884/73 Heading B8C [Also in Division F3] A container for a solid, slurry or liquid booster explosive comprises a container 12, closed by an integral base 28 and a cap 14; and a sleeve 26 with which it co-operates to define recesses 18 and 22 for receiving detonators or detonating cords. The recesses are formed by indentations in the container 12 or by furrows in the sleeve. One or more containers can be threaded on a fusecord. Recesses in the base and cap of the container 12 and the indentations in the side wall provide a hollow charge effect. The container 12 is made of aluminium and oxidizes upon detonation of the explosive charge to increase the explosive effect. An ejectable plug 16 relieves excess pressure within the container. The sleeve 26 is made of cardboard or plastics, and may include an annular band of explosive (60), Fig. 7 (not shown), or is formed entirely of sheet explosive. The side wall of container 12 may also include an annular explosive band (68), Figs. 8, 9A and 9B (not shown). In another embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the detonator or fusecord is retained within short indentations in the side wall of the container by a band (52) of explosive.
