Abstract

1419086 Friction false twisters ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS LTD 23 Feb 1973 [6 March 1972] 10329/72 Heading DID A friction twisting apparatus has a succession of friction surfaces around the yarn path such that perpendiculars to the planes of the surfaces at the points of yarn contact form the angles of a polygon, the surfaces being in at least three sets which overlap so that the yarn follows a non-rectilinear path and the direction around the polygon in which the surfaces are successively contacted is the same as the direction of travel of the surfaces relative to the yarn. In order to reverse the direction of twist produced the direction of rotation of the surfaces is reversed and the surfaces 11 are moved to position 111 which means that the surfaces are contacted in an order which is the reverse when considered sequentially about the polygon, of the previous order. Alternatively two arrangements of surfaces can be provided Fig. 3 (not shown) or two effective polygons can be provided by four sets of surfaces, Fig. 4 (not shown).
