Abstract

1418795 Dyeing & printing polyolefins HOECHST AG 1 March 1973 [7 March 1972] 9928/73 Heading D1B Unmodified polyolefin fibres are dyed or printed by treating with an aqueous liquor containing a water-soluble metallizable dyestuff (as defined) and a polyvalent heavy-metal ion yielding compound in the presence of a non- ionic polyglycol ether or ester dispersing agent at a temperature above 100‹C, a colour lake being formed. The polyolefin fibres may be polypropylene fibres, exhaustion dying processes may be at temperatures of 120‹C to 135‹C, pressure steaming being employed for padding and prints. Unstable chelates of copper, nickel, cobalt, chromium, iron, aluminium, or zinc with nitriloacetate ethylene diamine tetraacetate, polyphosphate, tartrate, citrate, aliphatic amine or ammonia are used to provide heavy metal ions. An anionic protective colloid having a dispersing effect in combination with the nonionic auxiliary may also be used, e.g. lignin sulphuric acid.
