1418051 Texturing yarn BAYER AG 4 Jan 1973 [5 Jan 1972] 554/73 Heading D1F In a process for producing textured, stretched continuous polyester yarn, the unstretched yarn 10 is taken from a supply 11 and fed in contact with a preheating element 3 at a temperature in the range 90-150‹C, is fed over, but not in contact with a fixing heater 4, through a false twister e.g. friction false twister 6, and round a stretching godet 7 to a ring taking up the initial few metres, thereafter the false twister 6 is switched on whereby the yarn is simultaneously stretched and twisted, the stretched and twisted yarn is then moved by yarn guides 5, 5a into contact with the fixing heater 4, which is at a temperature in the range 180- 250‹C, for a period of 0.005-0.1 sec, a spinning finish is then applied at 8 and the yarn is taken up on an adjustable speed cap 9. The preheater 3 may be removed after the process has started. In a further embodiment, once the yarn has passed the stretching godet 7 it may be passed over a further heater or back over the heater 4 to stabilise the crimp. The yarn produced is stated to have alternating sections of S and Z twist, an S-twisted yarn having 60-90% of S-twists and 10-40% of Z- twists and vice versa for a Z-twisted yarn. Several examples are given enumerating the properties in the yarn of loop count, arc count, elongation at break, tear strength and shrinkage. The polyester is preferably derived from terephthalate acid or ethylene glycol. In a further embodiment, the yarn is textured alternately in S- and Z- directions alternately along its length, the S- and Z- components meeting the above requirements of S-twisted and Z-twisted yarn respectively.
