Abstract

1417369 Phosphating steel surfaces; lubricating PYRENE CHEMICAL SERVICES Ltd 28 June 1974 [29 June 1973] 28735/74 Addition to 1367605 Heading C7U A steel surface is prepared for cold forming by (1) pickling in mineral acid, (2) treating with an aqueous suspension of 0.1-8 g/l secondary or tertiary Mn phosphate (3) phosphating using Mn phosphate or Mn-Fe phosphate solution (4) rinsing with water and evaporating residual water (5) dipping in an organic lubricant melt the major proportion of which is a fatty acid or fatty acid mixture of Mpt> 25‹C and (6) allowing the film of lubricant to dry on the surface. Step (1) uses H 2 SO 4 or HCl, with or without an inhibitor, (2) uses finely ground Hureaulith, optionally plus 0.1- 5 g/l condensed phosphate, at up to 60‹C (3) uses a conventional solution at # 50‹C to give coating weight 3-30 g/m<SP>2</SP> (4) may be a hot water rinse optionally followed by forced drying, (5) uses capric, lauric, myristic, palmitic, or stearic acid or distilled cocinic acid, hardened distilled palmkernel oil fatty acid or compressed stearin, optionally plus paraffin, higher fat alcohol, hydrocarbon resin or unsaponified fats; application is preferably at # 10‹C above the Mpt for 3-5 minutes.
