Abstract

1412011 Resin-coated sheets for electrophotographic transparencies XEROX CORP 1 Nov 1972 [1 Nov 1971 21 March 1972] 50337/72 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B6 and C3] A transparency suitable for bearing at least one developed electrostatic image, in partic ular multi-coloured electrostatic images, comprises a thermoplastic sheet having on at least one surface thereof a coating comprising an acrylic resin, a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, the resin and copolymer being present in a weight ratio of from 6:4 to 7:3, and 2.5-25.0% by weight, based on the combined weight of the resin and copolymer, of a wetting agent. The coating preferably also comprises particles of a material which reduces the static charge properties of the transparency. The thermoplastic sheet is suitably a polysulphone or polycarbonate sheet. Preferred acrylic resins are poly-n-alkyl methacrylates, particularly poly-n-butyl methacrylate. The wetting agent may be a quaternary ammonium salt or a fatty acid amide, and the antistatic particles may be those of asbestos, silica or colloidal silica. The coating is suitably applied to the thermoplastic sheet from solution in a solvent which is preferably a mixture of 2-ethoxyethanol and a ketone, e.g. methyl isobutyl ketone.
