Abstract

949,176. Liquid electrostatic image developers. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. April 13, 1960 [April,29, 1959], No. 13277/60. Heading G2H. A developer for electrostatic images consists of toner particles consisting of a pigmented resin predominantly comprised of vinyl chloride units dispersed in trichlorotrifluoroethane and may also include dissolved in the carrier liquid a binder which will fix the developed image. Suitable binders for use as fixers are polyisobutylmethacrylate, diphenyl, chlorinated biphenyls and polyphenyls, ester gums, gum mastic, stearic acid, polysiloxane resins, and paraffin waxes. The pigments may be carbon black, powdered metals, colour pigments or powdered dyes while the vinyl chloride copolymer preferably contains at least 90% by weight of vinyl chloride. The toner may be made by ball-milling a dimethyl polysiloxane dispersion of pigment and a vinyl chloride-acetate copolymer.
