Abstract

1411607 Supported annular filters PUROLATOR FILTER GmbH 14 Dec 1972 [16 Dec 1971[ 57856/72 Headings B1D and BIT [Also in Division F2] An annular filter has a perforate support tube formed by stamping out a blank of stiff foil material and then rolling up the blank to form a tube, the blank comprising a spine portion 37 (Fig 3) having a plurality of spacedapart parallel arms 10, 11 extending from the spine at right angles thereto. The blank is rolled up about axis 25 and the ends of corresponding pairs of arms joined or overlapped, the gaps between the arms forming apertures in the tube wall. A longitudinal bead 32 and radial corrugations 8 may be embossed on the blank. In the embodiment of Figure 4, the spine is cut along a central line 49 to form a blank having arms on one side only. This blank is rolled up about axis 43. The spine of the blank may decrease in width towards one end as shown by line 51 if a conical rather than cylindrical, tube is required. A number of blanks may be cut from a web of material (Figs 3 and 4) with little material wastage. A gas or liquid filter for use with I.C. engines filter comprising a cylindrical pleated paper filter element supported on such a tube is described. The tube may be formed of plastics, cardboard or metal.
