1409121 Formaldehyde BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 1 Jan 1973 [12 Jan 1972] 4/73 1377244 Heading C2C In a process for the production of formaldehyde by catalytic oxidative dehydrogenation of methanol, an amine R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>N, where R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic, R<SP>1</SP> may also be H, or R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> together with the nitrogen atom may form a heterocyclic ring, is added to the reaction mixture after the reaction and prior to the absorption of formaldehyde in a solvent, in an amount of 0À00002 to 0À002 mole of amine per mole of methanol. The formaldehyde may be absorbed in water or an alkanol or cycloalkanol. The amine may be added in a solvent. The product solutions are stabilized for storage.
