1408866 Piezoelectric gas-fuelled lighters MANSEI KOGYO KK 5 Sept 1972 [28 Sept 1971 and 14 Dec 1971] 41208/72 Heading F4F [Also in Division H2] A piezoelectric gas-fuelled lighter comprises a casing 1, a fuel reservoir 3, a burner valve 4, a piezoelectric generator 2, a thumb piece 11 pivotally mounted on a block member 12 and rotatable about an axis which is parallel to the movement of a force transmitting means 5 which transmits force from the piece 11 to the generator 2, a cam lever 17 transmitting force from the piece 11 to the means 5, and spark producing means 21 connected to the generator 2 to give sparks for igniting fuel from the valve 4 when a piezoelectric element (8), Fig. 3 (not shown), generates a high voltage on compression thereof due to rotation of the thumb piece. Thumb piece 11 is pivoted on a pin 14 in block 12 and carries a roller 15 acting on cam lever 17, which is pivoted on a pin 18 and has a roller 17a engaging an operating member 5 of generator 2. Rotation of piece 11 opens valve 4 by means of a lever 19 and depresses member 5 to compress an energy accumulating spring 7 which when sufficiently compressed causes a hammer 6 to strike the piezoelectric element (8). Hammer 6 is returned to an inoperative position by a spring 9. A spark is produced between the top of the valve 4 and an electrode 21 connected via a resistor 22 to generator 2. A top cap 31 is hinged to a member 30 and houses a spring and cylinder mechanism 36 pivoted at 33 and provided to aid opening and closing of the cap 31.
