Abstract

1408535 Closure feeding apparatus CONTINENTAL CAN CO 31 Jan 1973 [3 Feb 1972] 4822/73 Heading B8T A cap feeding apparatus 10 for fluted or plain caps 12 includes an opposed pair of track guides 18 at the end of a shoot 20. The guides include a cap retaining fixed upper guide 50 and a spring loaded upper guide 56, forward and rear support rails 26, 24, having top surfaces 30, 28 respectively along which the caps slide on the lowest portion 42 of their closure skirts 23. Surface 28 is generally straight and surface 30 is concave and formed on an arc of large radius. The support rails 26, 24 are separated by a gap 40, the upper rear end 38 of forward rail 26 being higher than the forward end 36 of rear rail 24 to give an immovable cap locating edge 39, which engages the lowest margin 44 of cap 12. As a jar 16 passes below cap 12, it lifts the forward portion of the cap over edge 39, moving spring loaded guide 56 slightly upwards releasing margin 44 from edge 39, and allowing the lowest portion 42 of the cap to rest on surface 30 of the forward support rail. Further forward movement of jar 16 moves the cap along surface 30 under continuing pressure from surface 54 of upper spring loaded guide 56 to ensure correct positioning of cap 12 on jar 16.
