Abstract

1407601 Stoppers etc; easy-opening containers METAL BOX Ltd 29 Dec 1972 [6 Jan 1972] 696/72 Headings B8T and B8D A resilient plastics closure 15 for a container end panel 13 is made up of a flat tab 16, a finger ring 17 and plug 18 with its end 20 protruding through hole 14. A sheet of foil 80 with a layer of heat sealable adhesive 81 previously applied is laid over the inner face of wall 13 and plug 18. Pressure and heat are applied simultaneously to upset free end 20 of plug 18, form a flange 23 and activate adhesive layer 81 thereby bending the foil to the underside of wall 13. To open, an outward pull on ring 17 fractures shank 24 from the flange 23 of the plug 18 and, since foil 80 is bonded to the plug the foil ruptures. Specification 1,393,875 discloses a similar device without the foil layer.
