Abstract
1407407 Oxidizing Fe-Cr alloys for razor blades WILKINSON SWORD Ltd 20 Sept 1972 [9 Oct 1971] 47125/71 Heading C7U An alloy of Fe-Cr e.g. 81.15 per cent Fe, 13 per cent Cr, is oxidized in an atmosphere such that the Cr is oxidized in preference to Fe to a depth of 400 to 800A degrees to form a coloured razor blade or strip. The atmosphere may be a mixture of cracked ammonia with water vapour or methanol or mixtures of carbon monoxide and dioxide. The oxidation may take place during heat treatment at 750 to 1100‹C.
