Abstract

1403414 Knitting machines WARNER & SWASEY CO 9 Oct 1972 [27 Oct 1971] 46400/ 72 Heading D1C [Also in Divisions G4 and H3] A circular knitting machine 10 comprises a structure 13 for supporting spools of yarn 14 to be knitted, tensioners 15, stop motions 16, 17 and feeder blocks 18. A ring gear 21 mounted on the lower portion of the knitting machine or needle cylinder drives a pinion gear 22 to rotate a shaft encoder 25. Coarse and fine code discs in the encoder 25 enable the photo-electric generation of coded signals which are supplied to a control circuit (see Division G4) for the machine. The control signals actuate 36 yarn feeders and 1872 needles to enable different patterns to be knitted with up to four colours, the pattern being repeated nine times around the circumference of the knitted tube 11.
