1403284 Electrical connector ELECTROLUX AB 10 April 1973 [12 April 1972] 17244/73 Heading H2E An electrical connector, Fig. 3, comprises a base member 1 with grooves 6 holding initially insulated individual wires 11, II<SP>1</SP> of a cable and with a recess 2, accommodating countermember 3 bearing a corresponding number of resilient contact members 9, projecting from recesses 10, the mating edges of shoulder 7 and the inner edges of the recess 2 being such that when countermember 3 is pushed into the recess insulation 13, 13<SP>1</SP> is stripped from the metallic cores 14, 14<SP>1</SP> of the wires, which are accommodated in notches 88. The members are held together by a nut and bolt passing through a hole in each. In countermember 3 there may be a self-contained circuit, e.g. an amplifier, indicator lights, switches, which is connected to the contact strips. Alternatively the countermember 3 may serve as a distributor with a printed circuit thereon or as a plug. In another embodiment (Figs. 5-7, not shown) the plastics base-plate is part of electrical apparatus and its inner wall has recesses with contact springs. In the embodiment of Fig. 9 cylindrical recess 51 of base member 50 accommodates countermember 52. Wire ends are inserted through bores 54 into chamber 53. When 52 is rotated clockwise using a screwdriver or an allen key, the insulation is stripped by the edge of surface 61 and channel 58. Channels 58 and 59 are suitably dimensioned to grip the wire core so that member 52 is jammed firmly. Contact elements may be silver or gold plated and have steel springs behind them.
