Abstract
1401848 Vibratory rammers; pile driving and extracting ALLIED STEEL & TRACTOR PRODUCTS INC 30 June 1972 [1 Nov 1971] 30736/72 Headings E1G and E1H A vibratory device for a ground compactor, pile driver or post extractor comprises a motor-vibrated workhead having a base 36 for attachment of a compaction pan 48 or other tool, and an overlying support frame attachable to a vehicle - e.g. to the back hoe arm of a tractor - the frame having depending arms 32 arranged about the periphery of the workhead, which arms are coupled to the workhead by blocks 54 of resilient material so arranged that under a vertical load they deform to a tensioned condition and act in shear. The low location of the resilient blocks permits the use of low modulus material and so minimise transmission of vibrations to the vehicle. The workhead comprises the base plate 36, side plates 38, 40 and front and rear cross tubes 50 carrying metal/rubber blocks 54 bolted to four rigid arms 32 of a welded support frame 10-12-26-28-30 detachably mounted on the tractor arm by removable tie bars 18, 20. The workhead is vibrated by a hydraulic motor 42 driving an eccentric weight in a housing 46. Excessive movement is prevented by abutment surfaces 68. When the device is used in tension, e.g. as a post extractor (Fig. 6, not shown), excessive movement is prevented by a chain or cable loop 60.
