Abstract

1401799 Tine cultivators J M MCCOOMB 10 Aug 1972 [13 Aug 1971 13 March 1972] 37412/72 Heading A1B A manually-operable cultivating implement comprises a head member 2 on which is mounted non-rotatable axles 5 supporting tine members 6 which are rotatable by the advance of the implement over the ground. A handle 1 is received in the head member 2 which is provided with a U-section lower portion 4, the axles 5 extending through and being secured to the sides of the U-section. The axles 5 lie at 160‹ to each other and in a plane at 40‹ to the handle 1. Each tine member 6 comprises four or five curved tines 10 extending from a central boss 9 and curving in the direction of rotation, and the tine members 6 are retained by a screw and washer 8, 7, or groove and circlip, or split pin and washer. The tines 10 are of circular cross-section and have chisel tip 11, and the tines of each tine member 6 are angularly offset by 45‹ from those of the tine members 6 next to it by means of a pin (not shown) engaging holes in the bosses 9. A guard may be mounted on the ends of the shafts 5 to extend over the tines 10. The implement may be used with the tines 10 curving away from the direction of rotation to effect aeration.
