Abstract
1401488 No break A.C. supply systems COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRONIQUE INDUSTRIELLE LEPAUTE 20 Nov 1972 [18 Nov 1971] 53469/72 Heading H2H A circuit for supplying uninterrupted A.C. to a load 1 comprises A.C. sources 2, 3 connectible to the load via inverse parallel connected thyristors 43, 44 and 45, 46, circuits 61-63 and 71-73 for monitoring the voltage between points A, B<SP>1</SP> and A, O<SP>1</SP> respectively, a circuit 81-83 for monitoring the voltage across the load and a logic circuit 5 for controlling the thyristors to connect one of the sources to the load if the monitor circuits detect that both sources are simultaneously disconnected from the load or to change the source if the load voltage remains lower than a predetermined voltage V for longer than a predetermined time. One of the sources 2, 3 may be a D.C. source connected to an inverter whilst the other source is the supply network. Each monitor circuit includes a pair of Zener diodes and a resistor, and the voltages between the points A, B<SP>1</SP>, A, C<SP>1</SP> and A, D<SP>1</SP> are fed to respective first operational amplifiers in the circuit 5. Further operational amplifiers connected to each of the first operational amplifiers compare the voltages V B <SP>1</SP>-V A , V C <SP>1</SP>-V A , and V D <SP>1</SP>-V A with a reference voltage V to provide logical 1 or 0 signals to a system of NAND gates. A delay circuit, connected to the portion of the logic circuit which monitors the voltage across the load, establishes the predetermined time. If the logic circuit detects that both sources are disconnected from the load, a 20 kHz. signal from an oscillator is gated to a transistor amplifier circuit to enable firing of the thyristors associated with the previously redundant source. Similarly if the load voltage is less than the reference voltage for a period of time greater than the predetermined time established by the delay circuit, the thyristors associated with the previously redundant source will be fired.
