Abstract

1397264 Laminated corrugated paper bodies G C F ASKER and M A HUBSCHER 23 May 1972 24267/72 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions B1 and F4] A fluid treatment packing comprises a laminated body of paper sheets, at least some of which are corrugated so that channels for fluid passage through the packing are formed between adjacent layers, the sheets being encapsulated with a hard-setting moisture-impervious continuous organic resin film which bonds particulate material to the exposed surface of the film. The laminate may be flat or coiled and may comprise corrugated sheets only or alternating flat and corrugated sheets. The resin may be applied in completely or incomplately polymerized form either to the uncorrugated sheets or to the assembled body, and the particulate material is applied in powder or granite form before the resin sets or hardens. Specified resins are epoxy resin, polyester, polyacrylic acid, polyalkyl acrylates, polyamide, polystyrene and styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer. The particulate material may be a dessicant, an ion-exchange material or a heat-conductive material, according to the intended use of the packing (see Divisions B1, F4); examples are given. The resin may be chemically modified for ion-exchange purposes and may be filled with Al, Cu or Zn dust.
